Iced Tea Anyone?

The weather has been quite chilly if you live in the Western region of Lagos but for most places in the world it is summer and nothing does the body better than a chilled drink in the beautiful sun. Well, whether it’s chilly or steamy, a chilled glass of iced tea is always welcome.

We notice teabags being used only to make hot tea. Beyond hot tea, tea bags can be used to make iced tea. Most people either don’t know this or think it’s difficult. Well guess what, iced tea is one of the easiest, most refreshing and cost effective drinks to make when you have friends over. Apart from being visually appealing, it is fresh and natural. How do you get started? We’re glad you asked.

Step 1
Depending on the type of tea bag you like, use 8 teabags for 8 cups of water. It could be more or less depending on how strong you want your iced tea. Put the water in a kettle or pot and boil.

Step 2
When boiled, pour in a jug or pitcher and add the teabags. You can also add sugar if desire but if you must sweeten, syrup will be preferable. Do not allow the teabags over steep except of course that’s how you like it. But to avoid bringing out the grains in the tea, do not over steep.

Step 3
Allow pitcher of tea cool down before refrigerating. If you refrigerate while hot, your tea will appear cloudy and we want our iced tea clear don’t we? After the tea cools a bit, refrigerate till it’s chilled.

Step 4
Bring chilled Iced tea out of refrigerator and add fruit juice of your choice. Natural juices are always preferable. It could be orange, pineapple, peach, lemon and what have you. To give it a zing, you could throw some cucumber in. there really are no rules once the basics have been done.

Step 5
And our iced tea is ready! Remember to sever with ice cubes and garnish-lime, cucumber, lemon or even mint at the tip of the glass will be fine.

You see, it’s easy!  Make sure you wow your guests this weekend with your new recipe courtesy Elles IceBox.
